Mukashi Mukashi

I was maybe around 4 years old when I first started watching anime. It was the 1980s Astro Boy and I remember how in-tuned I was to the emotional storytelling. It's kind of odd to think about it today considering I can barely even recall feeling conscious until I was around 10. After watching, we would move on to watching Sailor Moon among other different shows. Although I watched and read an equal amount of cartoons or western novels, the way stories were told from Japan felt very different to me. It was at that moment over a decade ago that I decided I wanted to learn Japanese.

How I would learn Nihongo today

Looking back, 11 year old me was actually really dedicated. I would manage to learn my kana in a month and over a hundred words that following year through self teaching. Despite my drive, I did hit a wall with Kanji as RTK + Mneomics were just such a bad fit for me (lol). I really wish I could turn back time learn about Spaced Repetition. Anyways, I hope to write more in this in the future and maybe adapt a video from it as well!

Reviewing my Nihongo Midsem course

As someone that later discovered MIA and AJATT, a lot of practices in University language courses were somewhat conflicting to the ideas I came to hold. Regardless, I was able to learn a lot of intersting things on teaching.

Progress Update: 500 hours of learning

This one will just be a little status update so I can keep track and log specifc materials or goals. It's definitely quite difficult to be consistent with practicing due to Engineering, but at the very least I try to keep up with reviews and read leisure materials exclusively in nihongo.
